Nontraditional piece based on a photograph by Diane Barker.
The figures of two Tibetan girls returning from amazon a pilgrimage are hand-stitched with traditional Tibetan applique techniques. The background photograph is inkjet printed on pieces of cotton and organza, pieced together, and machine quilted.
The shy girl in the background covers her face with a scarf and giggles as the camera snaps, while her bolder friend welcomes the contact.
